N.C. sets up job assistance for evacuees

The N.C. Employment Security Commission said yesterday that it is providing in-person assistance to Hurricane Katrina evacuees in Charlotte and Raleigh and is preparing similar aid in Greensboro and Winston-Salem if needed.

FEMA Awards Westport Island $32,000

Westport Island will receive $32,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for roads that were damaged during the heavy rains this spring, selectmen learned at their meeting last week.
